Rule no. 1: Don't put an e-mail address on your web site

Rule no. 2: Don't put an e-mail address on your web site

Rule no. 3: Don't put an e-mail address on your web site

Getting the message? Of course you want people to be able to contact you, but not spammers. The simplest method is to turn your e-mail address in to a graphic. You can do this with any graphics program; including Microsoft Paint which is a free program that is part of windows.

It will look like this

Do not use a "mailto:" link on this graphic, visitors that want to e-mail you will have to type the address manually. Of course a spam merchant won't bother as there are many easier ways of collecting email addresses.

An even better way

For complete email security you will need to use a web form. If you are using a reputable web design company they will do this for you. If you are doing your own site you would need some knowledge of a programming language such as PERL or PHP. A search on Google will find many tutorials on this subject.

Catch All Mail Boxes

Arrgghhh.... these are a spammers best friend. If your hosting web hosting company provides catch all email on your site, you are increasing your risk of spam.

Catch all means anything@youdomain.com gets through. Spammers guess email addresses. Common examples are sales@ info@ webmaster@ avoid using these email addresses. Have separate email boxes for each email address you want to use. In my opinion it is worth the extra cost. If spammers get your email address you can close the e-mail box and have a new one.

The better Hosting Companies have built in Spam filtering software on all email accounts, again, I think it's worth the money.
